See It Big! Science Fiction (Part One)

Apr 18 — May 25, 2014

See It Big! is an ongoing series organized by Reverse Shot editors Michael Koresky and Jeff Reichert, Chief Curator David Schwartz, and Assistant Film Curator Aliza Ma

Science fiction may be the most spectacular of film genres, bringing us into fully imagined worlds that are at once fantastic and seemingly realistic. Sometimes these worlds exist in the future, as in George Lucas’s THX 1138 and Ridley Scott’s Alien. But sometimes, our present world is reimagined, as in Jean-Luc Godard’s Alphaville, Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth, Ken Russell’s Altered States

The series concludes in spectacular fashion with ultra-rare 70mm screenings of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey and special-effects genius Douglas Trumbull’s most ambitious film as director, Brainstorm.
