Tribute to Peter Bogdanovich

Feb 6 — Feb 18, 2022

Peter Bogdanovich, a scholar of Hollywood legends who became one himself, experienced meteoric success as well as demoralizing failure and tragic loss. When he died earlier this year, he left a robust legacy of more than 50 years of filmmaking, publishing, acting, and storytelling. Bogdanovich visited MoMI in 2008 for a memorable evening in conversation with Jerry Lewis, and films such as The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon, Mask, and his long-delayed collaboration with Orson Welles, The Other Side of the Wind, have played here in recent years. For this tribute to Bogdanovich, we’re showcasing two underappreciated works from the latter half of the 1970s: his Preston Sturges–inspired musical At Long Last Love and his deliciously seedy Ben Gazzara vehicle, Saint Jack, in which he also appears as a self-incriminating mogul.
