Sportsfriends & Friends
There is something special about playing games with friends. From chess matches to basketball games, players have traditionally shared the same physical space, but most modern digital games only offer opportunities for individual play or network play from afar. Sportsfriends is a group of game designers who have banded together to bring back local multiplayer with a compendium of four highly acclaimed games. Games include: Johann Sebastian Joust (IndieCade 2011 winner for Best Technology and Impact Award), Hokra (IndieCade 2012 Audience Choice winner), BaraBariBall (IndieCade 2012 Official Selection), and Pole Riders. Bring your iOS device to join in on a game of Spaceteam.
Presented by Douglas Wilson, Ramiro Corbetta, Noah Sasso, and Henry Smith. Moderated by Frank Lantz.
A special panel discussion by Sportsfriends game creators. These talented independent designers, and Henry Smith, creator of iOS party game sensation Spaceteam, talk about the magic of digital games that friends play together. Douglas Wilson is Lead Game Designer and Partner at Die Gute Fabrik, a small games studio based in Copenhagen and New York City. Ramiro Corbetta is a New York-based independent game developer. His game Hokra, an IndieCade 2012 winner, is on view in the games showcase. Frank Lantz is the Director of the NYU Game Center. For over twelve years, Lantz has taught game design at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. He has also taught at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons The New School for Design. His writings on games, technology, and culture have appeared in a variety of publications.
Also, from 4:00–8:00 p.m., game makers can register a time slot at the Show and Tell sign up desk to present their games for player feedback, pitch games, or present at the IndieCade East Game Slam.
