2001: A Space Odyssey
Kubrick’s sci-fi masterpiece envisioned a realistic future for human space travel; imagined a cautionary tale about our reliance upon rapidly advancing technologies; and offered an abstracted, ambiguous narrative about the spiritual paths for all sentient beings that’s still discussed and puzzled over.

The Silent Film Era
The Museum’s silent film era holdings include over 5,000 artifacts dating from 1894 to 1931. The holdings represent every facet of silent filmmaking and filmgoing, and offer an unparalleled opportunity for users to study and experience how these films were made, marketed, and exhibited.

Every Movie Cough
Since the beginning of motion pictures, filmmakers have trained their cameras at whooping, wheezing, sneezing, sniffling, hacking humans. Some of these expulsions are pivotal to the narrative. Many are purely incidental. But today, they all take on a new significance as vectors for disease.
This collaborative archival and data collection project turns MoMI’s long-running core exhibition Behind the Screen into a site of testimony and witness, seeks to fill in stories not on display, and to draw attention to the struggles and triumphs of people of color who have long existed in the margins of film and television.
