With its roving camera floating freely over Paris in its amazing opening number (“Isn’t it Romantic”), Love Me Tonight, with Maurice Chevalier as a jovial tailor who tries to collect on a bill from a Count—and falls in love with a princess—was the first truly modern movie musical. A panel of critics and filmmakers will discuss the importance and innovations of Mamoulian’s films and their legacy; participants include critics Lou Lumenick (New York Post) and Nick Pinkerton (moderator; 反向射击, 电影评论, 艺术论坛) and filmmaker Saro Varjabedian (Eliot Loves, After Water There Is Sand).
