With a historical introduction by Professor Izabela Kalinowska-Blackwood, expert in Slavic relations, and featuring a post-film discussion with actor Arkadiusz Jakubik

Dir. Wojtek Smarzowski. 2016, 149 mins. DCP. In Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, German, and Yiddish with English subtitles. With Michalina Labacz, Arkadiusz Jakubik. Set in a small village inhabited by Ukrainians, Poles, and Jews in the former borderlands of pre-war Poland, the drama Wolyn is one of the most ambitious and acclaimed Polish films in recents years. In Spring of 1939, the teen Zofia Glowacka is in love with the Ukrainian teen Petro, but her parents force her to marry the much older, rich widower Maciej Skiba. Through Zofia’s eyes we witness the unfolding events triggered by the outbreak of World War II.
