A Tribute to Amos Vogel and 电影作为一种颠覆性艺术

Saturday, Mar 16 - Sunday, Mar 31, 2013

A groundbreaking book when it was published in 1974, Amos Vogel’s 电影作为一种颠覆性艺术 is an exhilarating and mind-expanding catalogue of hundreds of films that break aesthetic, sexual, and ideological boundaries. Vogel (1922–2012) was one of the most influential film programmers of the 20th century, as the founder of the avant-garde film club Cinema 16 and the co-founder of the New York Film Festival. He taught generations of cinephiles and filmmakers to take risks and to appreciate a wide range of films from all over the world. In celebration of Vogel’s life’s work, this series features a selection of iconic films from Film as a Subversive Art, bringing together works that elucidate through provocation, joy, and transgression, each a testimony to the power of cinema and of Vogel’s unique vision.

This series has been organized in collaboration with Anthology Film Archives, which is presenting its own Amos Vogel tribute in February and March. For more details visit: anthologyfilmarchives.org/film_screenings/series/40458

With the exception of Horse Feathers, all film descriptions are from Amos Vogel’s Film as a Subversive Art.
