In the Galleries

With the final episodes of The Walking Dead now airing be sure to visit (or revisit) our exhibition Living with The Walking Dead. Explore the origins, production, and impact of the AMC series through costumes, props, special effects, and more. If you’re looking to hone your zombie makeup skills, or if you’re just fascinated by the history of the zombie in popular culture, there’s a lot to look at in this exhibition!

In our core exhibition Behind the Screen, see behind-the-scenes materials from iconic horror movies including The Exorcist, The Silence of the Lambs, A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master, The Bride of Frankenstein, and more.

The latest addition to Behind the Screen, LAIKA: Life in Stop Motion spotlights the tactile world-building of LAIKA Studios and features more than a dozen puppets from all five of LAIKA’s feature films, including Coraline and ParaNorman. At the interactive animation stations, you can make your own short animation using LAIKA characters, including the zombies from ParaNorman.

In Our Theaters

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of F. W. Murnau's horror classic Nosferatu. On Sunday, October 30, pianist Makia Matsumura will accompany a special 35mm presentation! The film also screens on October 28 and 29. Get tickets.

Trailblazing independent filmmaker Roger Corman spent a good part of the 1960s adapting some of Edgar Allan Poe’s most frightening stories for the screen. As a part of our ongoing series Disreputable Cinema, here are three fiendish double features that combine the auteur’s pop sensibilities with the chilling stories of Poe—all starring Vincent Price. And as part its ongoing series Musical Matinees, the Museum will show Little Shop of Horrors, the 1986 film directed by Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene. October 22–29. Get tickets

Special Events

Are you a MoMI member? We’re throwing a free Halloween party just for members on Saturday, October 22 featuring a dance party, food, drink, costume contest, trivia, and more. Ages 21+.  Join today!

In collaboration with dancer-performer Renée Brailsford (who performed in the original film of The Wiz), MoMI Education will host a free day of festive family programming including dance choreography to Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” video, a Halloween-themed Museum tour, and face painting by local artist Cheeky Chipmunk. Celebrate Day of the Dead on Wednesday, November 2 with a performance by Mariachi Nuevo Amanecer Academy, followed by a presentation of Aztec Mexica dance, poetry, music from indigenous dance troupe Yayauhki Tezcatlipoka, and a face-painting session inspired by historical characters from Día de Muertos. Free admission, 4:00–6:00 p.m. Plus, stay for a 6:30 p.m. screening of Coco (discounted tickets available). Wednesday, November 2. Learn more.
